Why are some people so resistant to change?

Why are they against people bettering themselves?

Why is such a simple thing like setting up a bank account seen with venom from my fellow co-workers?

I want as many employees as possible that live here in Cambridge Bay to set up a bank account so they can have their pay direct deposited. It is a simple thing. The bank is generally willing to accommodate them (provided they have not had issues with the bank before) and in the end it saves the employees money as they usually have the cheques cashed not at the bank, but at the local store who charges 2-5% of the value of the cheque. Why would you not encourage an account where they can keep their money safe?

I'm confused and I get confused so easily lately.

In my opinion, most people are just oblivious to common sense and change. Just the way it is, don't let it get to you, you are most likely stressed out more than you know from all the travel as of late.

Hi Jennifer,

Sounds like deep breaths are needed here!! Some people/communities just can't accept change of any kind in their routines, hard for most of us to understand. People in smaller communities seem to have the hardest time adjusting to anything new. They would be the ones that wouldn't use an ATM, want their whole pay cheque in cash, etc.

Accept them as they are, in the big scheme of things, this isn't too big of a deal. I know from a business standpoint, direct deposit certainly makes things easier. I suppose if you get a few people that will do it, they might be able to convince the other employees over time that it is the best way to go.

Keep on venting here though, it's good to get the "little" things out as they seem to play on our minds the most when we try to understand why people will, or will not, do something that we know will improve life for them!

It isn't the Northern employees who are giving me the hard time, almost all of them are going and getting the account. It is my Southern employees who are against the idea. That's what I don't understand.

If one of the Northern employees says no I leave it at that. It is when the Southern hires won't even encourage the Northern employees I get lost.

I'm slow in responding. I've had a busy couple of days. I ditto Lori's advice to vent to us. We all need a safe place to do that.

It is often what we think is the "small choices" in life that are "big choices" for others. We will never understand how or why people reason to do things. I guess we were not meant to. People have fought wars to obtain the freedom of choice and these people may feel you are taking it away from them.

I suppose there is something somewhere that we are all reluctant to change about ourselves and don't want to join the modern world about. If you are respectful of people's choices they will be more respectful of your advice.

Hang in there!

Oh - if it's the southerns not wanting the deposit - I'm with you on not getting what's wrong with them!! It saves everyone time and you don't have to worry about being around when cheques handed out. I haven't an answer now Jennifer - I'm lost on this one for sure!!
